José Antonio de Otegui followed a professional path outside the conventional art world. For decades, he practised as a notary in Valencia while maintaining a parallel and sustained involvement with contemporary art.
That proximity became an education of a different kind: years spent observing how artists develop ideas, how works are presented and discussed, and how a gallery creates the context in which art is encountered.

Years spent on the gallery side of contemporary art.
From 1994 to 2010, José Antonio de Otegui was a shareholder of Galería La Nave, a contemporary art gallery in Valencia. His involvement ran alongside his notarial career rather than replacing it.
Those years placed him in sustained contact with artists, exhibitions and the evolving language of contemporary art. The experience was not an artistic career in itself; it was prolonged proximity to the world in which art is selected, shown, discussed and lived with.

Otegui Atelier represents a different chapter. Decades of observation, conversation and artistic curiosity now move towards the development of his own visual language — across painting, sculpture, material and contemporary methods of fabrication.

The Atelier brings together artistic direction, material research and specialist processes around each work. The ambition is not to follow technology, but to use contemporary capability in service of artistic intent.
